Obituary

Christine Hawken

It is with great sorrow that we report the death of one of our members, Christine Hawken. Christine, like so many of us, started her lace career through evening classes, taken whilst she was teaching music at Okehampton school, where she was Deputy Head. She went on to teach Honiton Lace classes through Adult Education classes in Devon and nationally, Anually she was a tutor at the York Summer Scholl and in 202 was the Honiton Lace tutor at the OIDFA Nottigham Congress. She was invited to New Zealad, also to teach lace.

She will be particularly remembered for her interest in Honiton Fillings, tracking down and researching many that had been lost to the modern use. Her book ,"121 Honiton Fillings" becoming a world-wide seller. Christine served for several years as Chairman of the Devon Lace Teachers and her enthusiasm and knowledge of the craft will be a great loss to us all, as will her quiet humour.

Our thoughts are with her sister Anne who shared a love of walking, with Christine who regularly led 2 walking groups on Dartmoor.
